I have noticed the exact same thing - for me, using email chat is all about the words themselves, and sometimes it's kind of nice to just communicate on that level. A few interesting combinations are appearing, as I find myself using Google voice chat, while also typing, and possibly sending that person an image or email, all at the same time. Writing, talking, and reading all within the same conversation seems ridiculous as I'm typing this, but it somehow works. Maybe there are just certain mediums that are more appropriate for certain messages?
